Biography
Mohammadreza Yazdan Afrough was a 17-year-old Bakhtiari wrestler and Tehran champion who aspired to win an Olympic gold medal. On January 9, 2026, he was killed by security forces during protests in the Shadabad neighborhood of Tehran after being shot twice in the heart and stomach. He is memorialized as a young athlete who sacrificed his life for the protest movement.
